By way of introduction, in its central region, the Andes is formed by three distinct mountain ranges, Esther its height or its geological age.
They are the foothills, Front Range and Main Range or Limit Range.
In the province of Mendoza, the front range contains the
These chains run from the north to the south as a real wall , in parts going through incredible valleys.

In this case, our interest focuses on the Cordon del Plata, either because of its proximity to the Gran Mendoza (between 70 and 80 km, depending on the selected region) from where we can see the most peaks, or because the countless possibilities for the practice of mountaineering.

With tops from the 3000 to the 6030 meters above sea level of the Cordon del Plata, its highest top;  a wide range of possibilities is offered. You can trek by different valleys, walk their ravines, surrounding mountain groups doing their circunvalacion or reach its tops in ascents of one-day or almost a week Technical difficulties are varied: from just walking to rock and ice climbing along channels or walls several meters high.

Possibilities are a lot and between its most prominent peaks, we can find the Cordon del Plata of more than 6000 meters above sea level, a group of peaks over 5000 meters above sea level extending northward:  the hills Vallecitos, Rincón, Colorado, Junción,  Agustín Álvarez,  Blanco;  and extending southward: the Negro hill, Pico Ibañes over 5000 and the Platita hill that over the 4000 meters above sea level.

This cord resembles a kind of momb. It has a main cord from north to south and its “teeth” from west to east. In these lower cords we can find summits such as the hills Lomas Amarillas, Franke, Santa Elena y Falso Santa Elena, El Salto; and a large group of peaks and hills over the 5000 meters above sea level. Don´t forget the hills San Bernardo, Adolfo Calle, Stephanek and Mausy , between 4000 and 5000 meters above sea level and a group of  known peaks as La Cadenita of between 3000 and 4000 meters above sea level. It is important to note that these are some of the most known and visited summits among others.

This is why the Cordon del Plata has been the “birthplace of  mountaineering in Mendoza” since a lon time ago. It has been the trainer of great figures of climbing and the ascension place. Chosen by many as pre-preparation to climb the Aconcagua. It has been the place where we learned about mountains., walking and loving it. It has been the place where with every reached summit, a new challenge was born, a new target.
